Rebecca took it upon herself to go down to the Mini Mart on the first floor and returned with a cart and probably $100 worth of snacks and drinks that she paid for with her own money.
Rebecca Shuh assumed care of a patient on Tuesday night at 3 am...An elderly woman with a rupturing AAA whose family had just decided to transition to comfort care. This patient came in A+Ox4, and although the situation was tragic, her family was given the rare opportunity to spend her final moments at her bedside saying their goodbyes, and she said her goodbyes to them. The patient's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren gathered around the room. Rebecca came up with the idea to provide the family with a Comfort Cart - a resource we do not often have the opportunity to utilize in the Emergency Department, as death in our department is usually sudden. She called around to the Chaplain, Security, and Dietary, but it being after hours, no Comfort Cart could be provided. Rebecca took it upon herself to go down to the Mini Mart on the first floor and returned with a cart and probably $100 worth of snacks and drinks that she paid for with her own money. She set it all up on the cart and presented it to the family, who were so grateful. I would like to recognize Rebecca for going above and beyond this night. The care she provided to this patient and her family was truly remarkable. Thank you.
