There was a patient admitted to the ICU for a chest tube, facing a new diagnosis of stage IV cancer. Caroline drove in during a snowstorm to help out in the ICU and then was assigned to this patient. She brought the patient notebooks to keep track of all of the doctors she was seeing. The patient followed up with me a few times out of the hospital and continued to tell me, “Caroline was my angel. When I was afraid, I knew she was there taking care of me, and it brought me peace.” At another appointment she has said “Caroline was meant to be a nurse and I hope she never questions her calling to this career as a nurse, please tell her hello”. Your impact on this one patient’s life has been huge, and you deserve to be recognized for bringing her comfort during a challenging time. Thank you for all you do!

This recognition is not uncommon for Caroline. When rounding her patients, they have told me very similar things about her being a natural "nurse." This recognition seemed beyond a moment to shine. Caroline is a DAISY Nurse every day.
