She is an advocate for her patients and a model for us, the nurses we all strive to be. She is passionate about nursing, and this is evident in the way she approaches her students and patients.
Dr. Kathy Rhodes has easily been one of the best instructors I've ever had. She ensures all students understand any material covered by citing the information taught from the textbooks, pulling stories from her clinical experience, and meeting with students individually when grades are not up to her expectations. Dr. Rhodes has always encouraged participation in the classroom, and that has not changed since we shifted to online learning. Dr. Rhodes displays passion not only for nursing but for education as well, and that is clear in her teaching. When an instructor shows as much enthusiasm for being in the classroom as Dr Rhodes has, we, as scholars, are inspired to be the best students and future nurses we can be.
Dr. Rhodes exemplifies the School of Nursing's core values every day. She is one of the most respectful instructors to both fellow faculty and her students, despite our sometimes challenging and constant questions. She shows excellence in her work and teachings; when she is lecturing, I know I am getting a superior education, and it makes me proud to be a UMMC student. She holds her students accountable so that we can be well equipped when it comes time to see patients outside of the classroom. Dr. Rhodes promotes diversity and inclusion in her lectures; all of her students are seen as equals and we are all held to the same standards. And finally, she shows integrity in her teachings and will not compromise our learning for the sake of ease or convenience.
All in all, if I could ever find myself to be half as knowledgeable or enthusiastic about nursing as Dr. Rhodes is then I would consider my nursing career a success and know I chose the right field to pursue.

Dr. Rhodes goes above and beyond to ensure that her students are prepared for their nursing careers ahead of them. Not only that, she comes alongside each student and makes them feel seen and heard. Countless times, she has seen me studying on campus and has stopped whatever she was doing to check on me and see if I had any questions about anything. She offers professional encouragement and takes a lot of time to address individual needs and questions. No one in her class ever gets lost in the numbers, and this reflects the way that she approaches nursing. She is an advocate for her patients and a model for us, the nurses we all strive to be. She is passionate about nursing, and this is evident in the way she approaches her students and patients. I was fortunate to be with her for one clinical, and I saw inclusivity, patience, joy, eagerness to teach and learn, and so much more. In my book, Dr. Rhodes is a true DAISY Nurse Educator. Each day, she does something, whether big or small, that sets her kindness apart and reflects how wonderful a nurse she is.
