Our Nurse Manager is fairly new in her role but has shown great progress and promise in all she has done. Among caring for family, Melissa has an endless amount of energy that allows her to care for those she manages. Firm but gentle would be two ways to describe her leadership style. She knows the impact her position has on the unit in all the decisions she makes. She always uses her position to encourage everyone to be treated with dignity and respect, and this is shown in her interactions with others.

You can’t help but be drawn in by her energy and enthusiasm. When she walks onto the unit, she addresses everyone she sees in a friendly voice and has only a few times not had the time to see how everyone is doing. She encourages caregivers to talk openly about concerns and celebrations. She is not quick to judge and gathers all information if concerns that involve other caregivers are expressed. She is active, educated, and physically fit. This lets others know that you need to care for yourself mentally and physically before you can effectively care for others. I feel that Melissa Grossman is an excellent example of how leadership can impact those you serve. She is nearly always available to help on the unit, and she is easy to talk to. She has gained the trust of those she leads because she sees herself as our equal. She is supportive of all efforts and programs the staff initiate to help with recruitment and retention. She cooks food for staff, organizes and provides resources for fund-raisers, and overall encourages everyone to enjoy their work and ask for or offer help when needed. Overall, have a little fun as you fellowship with others.
