I felt heard and cared for. Grace kept me well informed of everything going on and would even stop by to say hello on days she wasn’t even assigned to me.
After being home a couple days and reflecting on my stay on the Medical Oncology Unit, my heart was full of nothing but gratitude and appreciation for the great quality care I received from all your staff. Everyone was so caring, patient, attentive, and loving, but there was one nurse that stood out to me the most. This nurse made such an impact on my life that I will forever hold her close to my heart. Grace Herrera was the most kindest, patient, loving nurse I have ever met. No matter what embarrassing situation I was in, she treated me with the utmost dignity and respect, and never made me feel embarrassed or a bother to her. I was not just another room number for Grace, I was a human being with real feelings and emotions, struggling with health issues. I felt heard and cared for. Grace kept me well informed of everything going on and would even stop by to say hello on days she wasn’t even assigned to me. Many nurses lose their human touch after being in the field a long time, but not Grace. You can tell she loves what she does. You can tell Grace loves the unit and the people she works with—this was evident in all of the interactions I witnessed. Grace truly defines what nursing is all about and all nurses should be like her. I did not want to miss the opportunity to share with you what great staff you have and I hope Grace can get recognized for being the great nurse that she is.
