My girlfriend came to visit me during a long 8-week stay in the hospital. It took her 3 hours on the bus to get here to see me. We had a great time hanging out, and we lost track of time. By the time she got to the bus stop to take her back, the last bus had already come by. With no money and no way to find her a ride, she was wandering around Ballard at 11:00 pm. I called my nurse to tell her the situation. I told her I could not leave her outside, and if she was going to be out there, so would I. Keep in mind that I can hardly walk with a walker and still have another week’s worth of antibiotics.

Mary came to tell me I should not leave. I told her I couldn't leave my girlfriend out there, but I did not want to leave. She then went the extra mile and found my girlfriend down at the ER waiting room and was able to get her a Lyft all the way to Marysville.

Had I left, it's very likely my infection would've come back for the fifth time, and who knows what would've happened. Thank you, Mary, for going the extra mile to make sure I was safe and the person I protected got a safe ride home.
