Ashley has a great personality and a good sense of humor, which made my stay at the hospital exceptional. We laughed and joked together, which made my stay much more enjoyable. Ashley knows how to balance being personable and being professional perfectly.
I arrived at the unit at Wesley Long after being transferred from the Emergency Room and Step-up units. I was extremely nervous because of my internal bleeding and I was afraid that I would not receive the individual care that I had been receiving. Ashley met me upon arrival, and she immediately welcomed me and made sure I was comfortable. She went through the orientation and specifics of the unit, and I could immediately tell that she was special and was genuinely concerned about my well-being. I was able to relax and concentrate on getting well instead of worrying about just being a number in a big unit.

During the two days that Ashley cared for me, we developed a bond, and Ashley became a friend and healthcare coach as well as my nurse. We set targets for lab results and celebrated success each time we got the results. If there was a setback, Ashley was optimistic, and she helped me maintain a positive attitude. When she arrived at the hospital for her shift, she immediately checked the overnight lab results and reported them to me so we could celebrate our success and develop a plan for the day. It became almost like a competition for me to get out of the hospital. It was fun.

Ashley explained everything that was happening and found answers to all my questions if she could not answer them herself (which was rare). I always knew when the doctors were scheduled to arrive and Ashley encouraged me to make notes of the questions that I had for them. I don't know how she did it, but I felt like I was the only person in the hospital. When I went for a walk, I was surprised at how many people she was actually responsible for. Ashley has a great personality and a good sense of humor, which made my stay at the hospital exceptional. We laughed and joked together, which made my stay much more enjoyable. Ashley knows how to balance being personable and being professional perfectly. When I mentioned this to one of Ashley's colleagues, I was told that Ashley was a beautiful person inside and out. I think this is a very good way to describe Ashley. It was also interesting to watch Ashley coach the nurse techs and develop a great team to assist with my recovery.

Once I was cleared to leave the hospital, it was almost sad because I felt like I was leaving a friend. Ashley has permanently changed my perception of hospital care and what will happen if I need to be admitted. I can't think of any way that Ashley could improve. She is a model for Wesley Long Hospital, and all I can suggest is that we get more Ashleys.

Ashley, thank you for your concern, compassion, and excellent care. You are the best.
