For us, the diagnosis was also still relatively new, and Julia patiently answered all my questions, checking through his chart for any new information I might have missed or misunderstood.
As a result of the confusion and disorientation caused by pain meds prescribed to my husband for pancreatic cancer, he spent the better part of a week on S7, as meds were changed and monitored before sending my husband back home. During this time, Julia was my husband's nurse. For us, the diagnosis was also still relatively new, and Julia patiently answered all my questions, checking through his chart for any new information I might have missed or misunderstood. Throughout my husband's stay, Julia also made an effort to make sure I was comfortable during the many hours I was there each day, and at one point, she and the unit secretary (to whom I am also extremely grateful) brought in an extra recliner when they noticed I was trying to nap with my feet propped up on another chair across from me. Knowing that Julia was there to take care of my husband also made it easier for me to go home in the evening and get some much-needed rest, for I could truly relax knowing he was in her capable hands while trusting she'd call if there were a need to update me. When we finally did get home, and I picked up one of the prescription meds that my husband needed to have, I was later dismayed to learn that the med required that it be given by injection. Having no idea how to do this, I immediately called Julia, whom I had come to rely on, and she invited me back to the unit, where she gave me a quick tutorial on how to administer the med my husband needed. I will be forever grateful. Needless to say, Julia's care and compassion, in addition to her professional competence as a nurse, make her a true DAISY Nurse.
