I loved the nights she would walk into my room and let me know she was the one taking care of me. She became a friend during my two-month stay.
I was admitted into the antepartum unit at 24 weeks pregnant with fear of laboring early. After losing two babies before, the fear of losing another was heartbreaking. At 25 weeks, I started having contractions, it was late at night, and Dora was my nurse that shift. She came in and started monitoring me and as soon as she found them on the monitor she sprang into action. Luckily, the rest of the team was able to stop the contractions, and I was able to hold my baby girl in for 3 extra months. After that night I knew I was in good hands. I knew I had finally had a team behind me and people that truly cared about my life, and my baby’s life. Dora became one of my favorite nurses and the presence of peace and comfort she gave me was nothing short of an answered prayer. I loved the nights she would walk into my room and let me know she was the one taking care of me. She became a friend during my two-month stay. She was an advocate. She also was going through a personal time with her family and was gone for a few weeks while I was still admitted. When she came back, she told me that she would call to check on our status and make sure everything was okay. That simple gesture made me feel so important and loved. To know she still cared outside of her work hours meant the world to me. I wasn’t just another patient, I was someone she truly cared for. Because of her and the whole antepartum team, my MFM, and OB, my baby was born safe and full term. I truly believe without them, our outcome would have been completely different. I don’t think I can say ‘thank you’ enough to her, but I hope this helps. She and the whole team deserve the best, because they gave me the best.
