Watching Alyson handle such a high-stress situation with calmness and empathy made me incredibly proud that she not only could speak to our policy but also communicate effectively with more tenured staff and physicians.
Alyson is an exceptional RN. In the short time I have worked beside her, I have witnessed her fierce advocacy for multiple patients, and I will provide detailed examples of their exemplary care.
Last week, Alyson had a critical patient who was maxed out on a peripheral vasopressor. When she received a verbal order to practice outside of our peripheral vasopressor policy, she stood up for what she knew was best for the patient. Alyson respectfully advocated for the patient to receive a central line to maintain care within our policy that was designed to protect our most vulnerable patient groups from unintentional harm. Watching Alyson handle such a high-stress situation with calmness and empathy made me incredibly proud that she not only could speak to our policy but also communicate effectively with more tenured staff and physicians. The patient received a central line emergently and was able to get the medications they needed in the manner for which they needed to be administered.
Today, I once again witnessed Alyson mention to a provider that their assessment differed from the physician's and request him to reassess the patient to ensure that a potential medical issue was not missed. Alyson is extremely thorough even when there are multiple priorities, and in a setting where rapid assessments take place frequently, small details can easily be missed. Alyson’s findings prompted the provider to take a second look and potentially change the plan of care for the patient.
It would be my honor for Alyson to take care of my family members.
