She was kind and patient and embodied the importance of listening to the patient’s concerns.
My grandmother is an 86-year-old Ukrainian immigrant who speaks little English. She has a complicated medical background and was recently diagnosed with angiosarcoma. Of her list of medical concerns is a large wound on her side that requires daily complicated dress changes. This puts her at high risk for infection. Tara was extremely patient while my grandmother slowly explained to her exactly how she needed it done. Seeing the nurse interact with my grandmother brought tears to my eyes. She was kind and patient and embodied the importance of listening to the patient’s concerns.

Tara leaned in, touched my grandma’s shoulder, and said she wanted to make the dressing change how my grandma wanted her to do it. My grandma thanked her and tried to explain that she felt many people didn’t listen to her. Aside from her excellent care, the nurse was extremely friendly and helpful with other questions. I’m grateful that she’s caring for my grandmother and feel at peace with the care the nurse is providing her.
