Carina coordinated with the patient’s friend to obtain pictures of Shorty so she could print and post them all around the patient’s room.
In a telephone conversation with the patient’s friend, Carina learned that the patient had a cat named Shorty, who was being taken care of by a neighbor. Carina coordinated with the patient’s friend to obtain pictures of Shorty so she could print and post them all around the patient’s room. When the patient was getting better and finally coherent enough to open his eyes, one of the first things he saw in his room were pictures of his beloved Shorty posted on the walls.
He was still intubated, but you could tell he was happy and excited to see his precious Shorty. Once he was extubated, he could not stop talking about Shorty and all the cute things he does. Carina's gracious act helped the patient realize he had someone to go home to and someone who needed him to get better!
