Libby Scott was often found taking care of one of our long-time esophagectomy patients in CVICU. She was there for the goals of care and palliative care meeting when his condition worsened, she was someone the family took comfort in caring for him. On his last day, the patient wanted to go outside. Libby made all efforts to arrange this, she got him all snuggled up in blankets in a wheelchair and brought his palliative ordered comfortable meds along with. She took him and his wife up to the rooftop for one last time outside the hospital and to take it all in. During the visit to the rooftop, the patient began to have increased discomfort, especially with breathing. Morphine was given to make the patient more comfortable and to take in what ended up being his last time looking out at the skyline. The patient began to get more comfortable and at peace. Libby then wheeled him back to his room, where he was comfortably placed back into his bed, where he soon passed hours later. This is not something out of the ordinary for Libby. She is a truly genuine and kind nurse who goes above and beyond for each of her patients. We are truly thankful to have Libby as one of our nurses in CVICU. Thank you, Libby, for all you do for your patients, especially - this patient whom I know pulled at your heartstrings, and you made sure that his end-of-life care was everything he and his wife needed for closure and comfort during this extremely difficult time.
