During shift change, Jordan found a crying, scared mom and a restless, worked-up 2-month-old who struggled to get air. She reassured us and began advocating for him to have mild sedation to allow him to relax.
I would like to nominate Jordan Enzwiler, RN, from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit as a deserving recipient of The DAISY Award.  This nurse’s clinical skill and especially her/his compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model.

Although everyone was great, Jordan was exceptional. Shortly after arriving at MU, our 2-month-old continued to decline due to RSV. We transferred to PICU at 3 am and he continued to need more and more support. We were extremely emotional and petrified. During shift change, Jordan found a crying, scared mom and a restless, worked-up 2-month-old who struggled to get air. She reassured us and began advocating for him to have mild sedation to allow him to relax. We saw an instant change. He was calm, easier to console, and his breathing seemed to improve. For the first time, it seemed like things were going to be okay.

She included us in rounding and always made sure we understood - even when it meant re-explaining it.

My husband and I ended up getting sick and having to leave. The care remained unchanged, though; she kept our family updated. She even went as far as sending things to our hotel so we could get better.

After the scariest night of my life, I’m thankful for Jordan. A true angel.
