Amber implemented Pop-It Therapy to reduce anxiety and timely completion of therapy by master trainers for patients between 12 months to 5 years.
Amber Hussain completed the St. Jude 15-month International EBP Nursing Fellowship program and EBP project utilizing the expertise of St. Jude Global Nursing and the nursing team at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The program strengthened her evidence-based practice competencies as a pediatric oncology nurse from a low- and middle-income country, developing her as a change agent who has positively impacted patient care and the work environment.

Amber implemented Pop-It Therapy to reduce anxiety and timely completion of therapy by master trainers for patients between 12 months to 5 years who receive inhalation therapy during Hospitalization in the Pediatric Oncology ward of Aga Khan University Hospital, Pakistan. Pop-it therapeutic play is one technique that utilizes toys to soothe children and enhance their motor, sensory, and cognitive skills as part of their developmental journey. Pop-it toys are made of silicone and come in the form of squeezable bubbles, available in various distinctive shapes and designs. Statistically significant improvement was demonstrated for the intervention group, and the standard deviation was narrowed. Anxiety levels before therapy averaged 4.37 (SD = 1.20), and after therapy, anxiety levels reduced to an average of 2.03 (SD = 0.98), highlighting the intervention's effectiveness in decreasing anxiety. The next steps for sustainability include making pop a standard part of inhalation therapy and including it as a part of inhalation supplies. It is evident from the study that pot-it therapy works significantly well to reduce anxiety levels along with timely completion among children during inhalation therapy in the pediatric Oncology unit. The next step for sustainability is to make pop a part of inhalation therapy and make it available as a part of inhalation supplies.
