Sherri's actions following her scheduled shift make her beyond deserving of this honor. We recently on 7B had a patient admitted for a GI bleed. Sherri was his day nurse and had developed a rapport with him and his mother. Immediately following a change of shift, when I took over, the patient began having severe bleeding as well as vomiting blood while lying on the floor. The situation was very stressful, with many physicians and nurses coming to assist. Despite it being 9 pm and far beyond her shift, Sherri immediately stepped in to help, and her presence put the patient at ease. She was able to place an IV on the bathroom floor and assisted in giving report to the ICU fellow and GI team while I stayed at bedside. She assisted with transfer to the bed and refused to leave until the patient was stable. I am so grateful for her help as she went above and beyond when she could have gone home. She is an asset to 7B.
