Beth received many recognitions for the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award. Her colleagues shared Beth's impact on their careers.
While I was attending the ANCC Pathway to Excellence Conference in May of 2019 I had stopped at the DAISY booth and was talking to Janet the Michigan representative about new program awards that DAISY had implemented. As soon as I heard and read about the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award one name came to mind right away, one of the most inspiring, challenging, and supportive mentors in my life; Beth Ann Daugherty MPH, BSN, RN, CRRN. Beth is an amazing administrator and mentor. She has touched so many careers and patients/families. The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award was created to recognize those nurses who, over their careers, have promoted the positive image of the nursing profession. Nurses are nominated for their dedication to nursing through active mentoring, role modeling, and advocating for their patients. Beth has improved the professionalism at Sparrow Clinton Hospital through engagement and empowerment. She has led the nurses to successful ANCC Pathway to Excellence designations (not once but twice)! Nursing education and certifications have increased along with direct care nurses becoming champions and informal leaders at the bedside. She has challenged me and others to research best practices ensuring patients are receiving safe quality compassionate care every day. Working with Beth on a daily basis has been a blessing to me personally and professionally. Her support and encouragement gave me the courage to sit for a certification exam, take the coordinator role for Pathways to Excellence, become the President of the MiCAHQN, virtual mentor and strengthen my leadership skills and become a better nurse leader. Beth has been instrumental in my nursing journey and continues to open my mind and other nurses to many possibilities. Beth is a DAISY Nurse!
The truth is: Beth Daugherty is the nurse I wanted to be, the leader I could never have been and friend I never deserved, if there's is anyone I would want by my bedside or my table to celebrate... it is she. Beth Daugherty is a treasure.
Everyone who has worked with Beth knows she is always on top of her game, a visionary who achieves results, embraces challenges, seeks and finds positive solutions, and courageously leads her team to mission accomplishment and victory. She does this effortlessly, with humility, grace, and generosity. She possesses a quiet confidence and exudes positive energy, enthusiasm, and joy in everything she does. She also cultivates this same spirit and attitude in those she leads and guides. An inspirational hands-on leader Beth consistently holds herself and others accountable to the highest standards of professionalism and clinical practice to ensure patients and families always receive the finest health care and quality service.
Beth is visionary and is able to take the over-arching goal and break it down into the incremental small things making it manageable and understood by all. This is a true gift. Beth is a true gift.
Beth Daugherty is the most passionate about the profession of nursing of any Chief Nursing Officer I have ever worked for. She is enthusiastic about the practice of nursing, mentors new nurses and nurse leaders, and encourages continuous growth and development.
Beth has many outstanding attributes but what really stands out is her passion and commitment to nursing. She supports professional growth by encouraging nurses to further their education and take on new challenges.
