By gaining trust, they were able to provide high-quality care for her significant wounds.
The Wound Care Team has grown and developed by leaps and bounds. They are well-rounded and provide expertise and knowledge in many different specialties within the hospital and clinic settings. This team is well-respected and strives to set our teams, patients, and families up for success. This team is small but the service they provide is big! The Wound Care Team works closely with clinical bedside nurses. They quickly respond to needs, develop individualized treatment plans, and are hands-on. They collaborate with different departments (plastics, surgery, etc.) to ensure positive patient outcomes. The Wound Care Team develops and educates nurses on ostomies, g-tubes, wound care, and staging pressure injuries. The innovative wound care team has partnered with the surgical nurse practitioner to develop a new dressing for newly placed G-tubes to prevent pressure injuries. This dressing is now used for our NICU and CVICU patients. The Wound Care Team consistently embodies the values of MLH. The MLH values have been demonstrated in caring for a complex wound care patient who had multiple stage 4 wounds that required collaboration with clinical nurses, RTs, and NAs. They once even provided care to an older adult who had a wound on his leg in the ED and was unable to be seen at other facilities. The Le Bonheur Wound Care Team even gained the trust of a reluctant long-term psych patient. By gaining trust, they were able to provide high-quality care for her significant wounds. Le Bonheur's Wound Care Team is not only within the walls of the hospital, but it also expands within the ambulatory care clinics.
