She took the time to help give the final bath when we were ready and shampooed my mom's hair, even though she didn't have to, simply because my mom had mentioned wanting to do that shortly before she died.
Sammi was extraordinary from the start of the day. She actually listened to our concerns and goals for the day and followed up on everything. She was kind and caring and joked with my mom, which she loved. When our day did not go as planned and my mom went into v-tach and was actively dying she was a calm presence in the room that supported us, listened, and respected our wishes. She supported us just by being there, not in a panic or being pushy about whether we wanted to shock or not, just being there and supporting our choice and helping us make the hard choices to hold my mom’s hand and let her go, knowing that is what she would want. This was shortly before shift change, and Sammi could have easily said my shift is done; I'm out, but she didn't. She took the time to help give the final bath when we were ready and shampooed my mom's hair, even though she didn't have to, simply because my mom had mentioned wanting to do that shortly before she died. There are no words to fully describe how much it meant to us and how blessed we feel that we had a nurse like Sammi on the hardest day ever!
