Jen is a tremendous example of how powerful a nurse can be in a unit when they provide high-quality care, are committed to working as a team, and display strong leadership.
Since Jen started on 4400, she has been an active part of everything that happens in the unit. It’s rare to see Jen in her office. She’s always out on the floor, supporting staff, leading by example, and helping when needed. She identifies opportunities for improvement this way and also is quick to give recognition for great work done by the unit staff members.
She works closely with all members of the CT surgery team, including the surgeons, APPs, and staff from the ICU and OR, and is always very communicative and collaborative. Jen has been an active proponent of improving quality metrics and does a fantastic job of balancing the needs of patients with the needs of the unit.
She cares about the staff’s well-being, frequently checking in with people to see how they’re doing. She is welcoming to nursing students and makes their clinical experience a fantastic one. I’ve overheard many nursing students talk about how much they love the unit and hope to have a manager like her someday.
She arrives early so that she can touch base with both shifts, and her reliable presence has made a difference in the quality of care that is being provided. She holds high expectations, but does so with kindness, encouragement, and demonstrating them as a role model. Jen is a tremendous example of how powerful a nurse can be in a unit when they provide high-quality care, are committed to working as a team, and display strong leadership. It’s a privilege to work every day with Jen, and I look forward to continuing to empower and grow the 4400 nursing team with her.
