No one wishes to be in this situation with a loved one, but I am grateful that Jenna was that special person there with us during this time.
Jenna was involved with my cousin’s care in the ICU when she was on a ventilator. She was never actually her nurse but assisted as needed and was present when we started to discuss palliative care and organ donation. My heart was already heavy with grief, and the anxiety of not knowing what to expect when they were removed from the ventilator and we waited for her to pass was almost more than I could bear. Knowing that Jenna assisted with extubation and palliative care, specifically for organ donation, was very comforting, and her reassurance that they would have the orders pre-approved with Midwest and the nurse would have all the ordered drugs in their pocket at the bedside helped me to be at peace with this decision. I was again comforted to learn the morning of the scheduled extubation and organ harvest that Jenna would be the nurse with us caring for her through this process. No one wishes to be in this situation with a loved one, but I am grateful that Jenna was that special person there with us during this time. Her care for my cousin and the emotional support she provided my family, and me was truly appreciated beyond what I can express through words!
