Kat provided direction to her team and was a clear leader in a very highly stressful situation and atmosphere.
Kat was the charge nurse of a particularly busy and difficult shift. The ER was full with multiple patients in the halls and more than 20 patients in the ER. There were several EMS units en route, and then a patient collapsed and was in cardiac arrest in the waiting room. Kat remained calm, prioritized appropriately which patients could be moved out of a room, and immediately provided the critical care the waiting room patient needed.
Kat provided direction to her team and was a clear leader in a very highly stressful situation and atmosphere. While others were yelling and causing increased stress and chaos, Kat maintained her composure, supported and led her team, and continued to manage the very busy ER at large.
Kat has clear leadership qualities and skills. She is a tremendous asset to the ER team and hospital as a whole, and I can see her going far in her career, particularly in a leadership role.
