Cory made a difficult and upsetting hospital stay more comfortable for the dementia patient and family.
My mother was in St. Luke's Anderson for three days. I am her daughter and have medical power of attorney. For much of that time, Cory was assigned as my Mom's nurse. My Mom is in the late stages of dementia. Of course, a hospital stay is traumatic to a dementia patient and brings on a variety of behaviors, which we experienced in the Emergency Room.
On the 3rd floor, Cory treated my Mom with great respect at all times. This was not a dementia unit, however Cory seemed to have a solid understand of a dementia patient. Cory was more knowledgeable than the dementia staff at the 1st memory living facility where Mom resided! He was also sympathetic and respectful to my brother and me. Cory was able to accomplish all tasks with my Mom, and she was most receptive to him. He seemed to have a gift for gaining her cooperation without much upset. Other staff members had Cory deal with Mom because he was successful and not once was it too much trouble for Cory. Cory made a difficult and upsetting hospital stay more comfortable for the dementia patient and family. Thank you, Cory!
