For example, he created a large sudoku board on a wall to provide education about the CAM-ICU. Nurses would gather around the game to work through the questions together.
The nominee helped onboard over fifty new nurses this last year. Most of the new nurses were graduate nurses participating in the nurse residency program. The nominee interacted with the new residents daily throughout their residency to make a connection and track progress. The nominee is employee centric and would often come in on weekends or nightshift to meet with new nurses and complete a progress check. With each residency cohort, he would seek feedback from the residents and preceptors on how to improve the program and their experience. From their feedback, the nominee added experiences such as a shadow day where they would spend time with a respiratory therapist, a charge nurse, and a PCA. The outcome of his work showed a decrease in the unit vacancy rate from 27.92% to 3.30%.
The nominee is an extraordinary nurse educator and is so deserving of this award.
Note: This is John's 2nd DAISY Award!
