Kate embodies the essence of a PeriAnesthesia Nurse Educator and displays the qualities this award seeks to recognize and celebrate. Kate’s practice is rooted in passion, evidenced-based practice, and a fervent desire to improve the quality of care provided in all the PeriAnesthesia Departments at Parkland. Her unwavering commitment to the professional development of our staff has significantly contributed to fostering an environment of excellence in the perianesthesia care of our patients. Kate is an active member of the Professional Development Shared Governance Council and is certified in Perianesthesia.

One of Kate’s many notable strengths is her ability to create engaging and transformative learning experiences for our team members. She consistently employs innovative teaching methodologies, leveraging cutting-edge technology, such as creating clinical escape rooms utilizing the simulation lab as a means of completing annual competency skill check offs.  This creative and dynamic way of education has enriched the learning process within our staff. One of the nurse residents was quoted as saying, “I love learning from Kate. She is patient, forward-thinking and makes learning fun”. The positive impact of her teaching methods is evident in the feedback from our teams, who express gratitude for her exceptional ability to make complex concepts accessible, relevant, engaging, and fun. 

Furthermore, Kate has played a pivotal role in developing and implementing a Nurse Fellowship & Residency program that addresses the evolving needs of the perianesthesia nursing profession. She has been instrumental in shaping the curriculum to align with current industry standards, ensuring that program graduates are well-prepared to meet the challenges of our diverse patient population we serve at Parkland.

In addition to Kate’s contributions to ensuring our team has what is needed to excel in their nursing specialty, she consistently raising the bar and no idea is too big or innovative when presented to her when her expertise is needed. She not only advocates for professional development but is also one of the first resources our staff reaches out to when they are considering taking their CPAN or CAPA exam. 

Beyond her responsibilities in the classroom, Kate is actively engaged in mentoring and supporting the youth of our communities through her work as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. Her guidance and encouragement are shaping these young individuals, fostering academic and societal excellence. Kate’s approachable demeanor and genuine concern for the well-being of others have contributed significantly to their personal and academic growth.
