I would say these little things she did for me lifted me up enough to look on the brighter side of life and helped a lot to get me better.
I first met Trang (Jang) Nguyen-Christensen a couple of years ago when I was admitted at SPT-11 for a second surgery due to my GIST recurrence. I came out of the surgery very much depressed because I thought was not going to live a normal life after it. I had a suspected bowel obstruction, and a g-tube was placed. The news came to me, and I interpreted it as not being able to eat ever again. She went above and beyond doing everything to make me feel better by providing me with "VIP bed sheets" and asked me if I wanted "Pet Therapy". Trang made every effort to make me feel both physically and emotional comfortable. I would say these little things she did for me lifted me up enough to look on the brighter side of life and helped a lot to get me better.
We talked about a bunch of stuff like blood donation where I worked as Donor Operations Trainer. We made a deal that one day she'll try to come donate when I get well and back to work. Fast forward about a year later, she did come out and reminded me of our deal! We were able to complete her donation despite her having "very hard to find veins!" Even though she didn't feel too well after, I commend her for trying it out! Now with this most recent admission, she maintained and even exceeded that level of special care. Since this was my third surgery already, we already knew the drill. This time, despite her busy schedule due to being a charge nurse now, she went out of her way to accompany me during my walks around the unit because ambulation is recommended by the surgeons and nurses.
I truly appreciated her sharing her story which made me accomplish more laps than ever before. Even with my discomfort with my PICC line, she suggested to the night shift team to help change the dressing which helped! Every interaction with her and of course all the nurses at SPT-11 had truly made my hospital stay the best. It was bittersweet during the day of my discharge. I genuinely felt at "home" as I shared my experience during feedback to their nursing director. Trang even made sure that everything was set up smoothly for my home health therapy which I'm currently on now. Thank you!
