Bridget then contacted the care manager at the patient’s apartment complex, and she proceeded to get the paperwork completed for the patient’s dog
Bridget Cross contacted the care manager at the home where the patient lives prior to being admitted to SLUH. The patient has an emotional support dog who began to destroy her apartment because of her absence. The care manager stated the dog had been sent to a shelter because the apartment complex could not care for the animal. Bridget remembered she had a nurse friend who fosters dogs for many of the shelters locally and reached out to her to find out how to keep the patient’s dog from being sold or euthanized. The nurse who shelters dogs educated Bridget on how to obtain protective custody of the patient’s dog. Bridget then contacted the care manager at the patient’s apartment complex, and she proceeded to get the paperwork completed for the patient’s dog to enter into protective custody. The dog was placed with a foster family who agreed to keep the dog until the patient was healthy enough to care for the dog again. I call this going above and beyond for a patient!
