Amy deserves this honor because of the impact she has had in helping the underserved population of the area identify cancer, which would not have had the opportunity for screening due to financial constraints.
I would like to nominate Amy German Pellicane, MSN, RN, OCN for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Amy is the Director of the Cancer Center, a role that she has held for many years. As the leader of the Infusion Unit, Radiation Therapy, and the medical services in the Cancer Center, and now Mammography, Amy has met each challenge with sincere dedication to her nursing staff, the physicians, the patients, and the communities of Hamilton, Robbinsville, and Trenton. Amy deserves this honor because of the impact she has had in helping the underserved population of the area identify cancer, which would not have had the opportunity for screening due to financial constraints. Amy has been instrumental in having RWJUH Hamilton participate in the NJCEED Program in collaboration with The Trenton Health Team - Mercer County CEED Program. NJCEED is part of the New Jersey Department of Health. As this program may sound new to you, it has been ongoing here since the start of 2023 in Hamilton. Patients from the neighboring communities are recruited to participate in the cancer screening. Once a month the patients are seen in our on-site Family Clinic. They are evaluated by a Nurse Practioner, exams are performed, and tests are completed. Once available, the patients are promptly notified of their results. If a follow-up is needed, appointments will be set in our Cancer Center. The NJCEED program provides comprehensive screening services for breast, cervical, prostate, and colorectal cancer. The services include outreach, early detection and screening, tracking, education, follow-up, and case management. Persons eligible for these services must be at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level and be uninsured or under-insured. Amy has been responsible for screening more than 67 people with 24 needing follow-up. As we know, when cancer is detected early, treatments can be initiated promptly and be more effective.

Amy meets all the qualifications to be named the DAISY Nurse Leader. She is totally supportive of her staff, she creates an environment of trust and compassion. She displays ethical behavior with respect for all she encounters. Amy encourages her staff to continue to develop professionally through advancing their education and national certification. Amy is accessible, available, and responsive to the needs of her team. She encourages her team to be autonomous in problem-solving and encouraging critical thinking. Amy is a compassionate leader who advocates for her team by addressing their needs. Amy has done so much for so many here at RWJUH Hamilton.
