The entire time we were there, Danielle and the team were not only nurses, but they treated my son like he was their only patient.
Less than a week ago, my 2-and-a-half-year-old son sat with my husband on the couch and ate a small handful of cashews. Moments after consuming them, he proceeded to throw up. My husband and I thought nothing of it; we assumed he was coming down with the usual winter stomach bug. However, what we didn't know at the time was how deathly allergic my son was to cashews.
Minutes later, my husband noticed a lot of facial swelling and hives all over my toddler's body. We both panicked and loaded our son into our car to get to the Evan ER. (In retrospect, we should have called the ambulance, but we were not thinking clearly at the time.) When we arrived at the ER, it was busy. We were whisked back to a room quickly, where we were greeted by Danielle and two other nurses. They were also amazing. They were calm, comforting, and quick in action. Honestly, they all went above and beyond the call of duty.
On the way to the ER, I administered my toddler a dose of Benadryl but didn't remember the exact amount. Danielle was compassionate and understanding before asking me each question. She used language like, "I know it was really scary, but can you remember..." As a crying mother, it did not go unnoticed. The entire time we were there, Danielle and the team were not only nurses, but they treated my son like he was their only patient.
Once he was stable, Danielle played peek-a-boo with my son, going behind the curtain of the ER room and popping back in. She made him a balloon with a glove and drew a smiley face on it. There are many other examples of how she made him (and us) as comfortable as possible during our four-hour stint in the ER. So, thank you, Danielle. I really appreciate everything you did on Sunday evening to ensure my son was safe and the extra mile you took with our son ... a very restless 2.5-year-old.
