Genina is a dedicated, caring nurse educator who has served IU Health-West for many years.
I am nominating Genina Miller because she genuinely values education in health care. As a Certified Clinical Pastoral Educator, I educate clergy and seminarians on providing effective spiritual care, particularly in clinical settings. My students, chaplain interns, when serving in the hospital, need to know how and when to use PPE (including donning and doffing) and other health care basic procedures before entering any of the hospital units.

In addition, they need to have a basic understanding of medical ethics. I count on Genina to provide this education in a manner that is always interesting, relevant, valuable, and helpful. My students, when serving as chaplain interns, have a thorough understanding of when and how to use PPE appropriately, as well as other basic healthcare procedures.

In addition, the chaplain interns gain basic knowledge of medical ethics, which will help them either as pastors when having parishioners in the hospital or in other medical care facilities or if they become health care chaplains. I recently heard of one clinical pastoral education program outside the state of Indiana that had their student chaplain interns simply do virtual training for PPE use. Because of the inadequacy of the virtual training, one student realized, only after visiting a patient, that she had been exposed to COVID-19. She missed the signs on the door and walked past the cart with the PPE. Fortunately, she is fine and did not get sick. Thanks to Genina, this would never happen at IU Health-West because of the quality education she provides our chaplain intern students.

Genina does not have to provide this quality educational opportunity for our students. She does it because she values education in the clinical setting. I value Genina as a nurse educator colleague not only because of the quality education she provides our chaplain intern students but also because her work here at IU Health-West is not "just a job." Genina truly cares about the hospital and the education of the staff.

In addition to her dedication to education, she also serves on the Medical Ethics Committee, another function not necessarily required by her position. Genina is a dedicated, caring nurse educator who has served IU Health-West for many years. She upholds the IU Health Values every day, and I am honored to work with her here at IU Health-West.
