He was instantly calming and thoroughly explained what was going on with my daughter and what to expect going forward.
My 14-month-old daughter was admitted to peds for respiratory distress after a 30-minute ambulance transfer and a 10-hour ER stay. To say we were exhausted and scared when we arrived at our room is an understatement. That is until Jack Sicheneder came in. He was instantly calming and thoroughly explained what was going on with my daughter and what to expect going forward. My daughter lit up every time she saw Jack and would reach out for him to hold her. Jack made sure we were comfortable at all times and even popped in on the days he wasn't our nurse just to check in on her, make her smile by doing a funny dance, and even ask if I needed a Pepsi. Details matter. However, the thing that absolutely stood out for me was how he went about training his trainee nurse. I have never seen someone so patient and kind yet secure in correcting if needed. He listened to his trainee as she would talk herself through things and was very supportive. He allowed her to finish her train of thought every single time, never interrupting but always teaching. It was the most wonderful thing to see. Jack really cares for his patients and his coworkers. He is genuine, and that is so important when working with children.
