Theresa had the calmest demeanor at the time, and she handled the situation beautifully!! The nurses all raved about her.
Theresa was caring for a total care, cerebral palsy pediatric patient with a past medical history of seizures. I can’t remember the child's original reason for being admitted, but I know it was not for seizures. On this particular day, Theresa had two patients. There was no parent present, and she knew that this patient was more of a priority because of the patient's status overnight. At some point in the morning, I was in the med room with another student, and I heard the code button go off. When I looked out the med room, I saw everyone running toward Theresa's room. I had the other student with controlled substances, so I couldn’t leave immediately. When I was finally able to go check on Theresa, doctors were walking out of the room saying “omg she is just a nursing student, she wasn’t even the nurse”. “Omg, she did so good”. “I can't believe that she is a student.” Upon entering the room, I see Theresa in the corner with the nurse, and they are given meds. The attending is at the foot of the bed, giving orders. The charge nurse was in the room and immediately turned to me and said, "OMG, she did so well!!" Theresa had the calmest demeanor at the time, and she handled the situation beautifully!! The nurses all raved about her. And bonus: she was still able to manage her other patient and remain on time with tasks and documentation.
