He was always friendly, answered endless questions, explained what he was doing and why, and went above and beyond to ensure we were all taken care of and comfortable
Christopher Schemm was instrumental in making sure my mom's passing was peaceful and comfortable in the MICU while being such a great support to all of the family there in the room as well. He was my mom's night nurse while she was on the MICU floor for several days. He was always friendly, answered endless questions, explained what he was doing and why, and went above and beyond to ensure we were all taken care of and comfortable, not just my mom. My mom loved him as well.
The passing of my mother was very stressful and an experience we were not well prepared for. Chris made sure that my mom got the needed medicine to keep her calm and comfortable as quickly as possible once he saw my mom's and our distress. It was obvious his main concern was patient care, comfort, and doing his very best his entire shift to ensure patients got whatever they needed. Chris helped us through it all, explaining everything as he took care of my mom and letting us know that everything that was going to be expected. He made extra stops into her room that night to check on her, even though he was very busy, to ensure her medications were up to date, she was comfortable, and everyone had whatever they needed to make the night tolerable. He was so caring, sweet, and respectful to my mom at every interaction, even when she was no longer conscious. I can still hear him softly talking into my mom's ear and telling her everything that he was doing for her. He also told us that if my mom was still on the floor the next night, it would be his honor to care for her again.
Unfortunately, she did not make it to see Chris again the next night, but his sincere caring, along with his obvious skill and expertise, will never be forgotten. We had so many amazing nurses and doctors in the MICU, but we will never forget everything Chris Schemm did for my mother and for our family during the worst time of our lives.
