Cheri Gibbons was my mother-in-law's nurse in the ICU. She was very ill, and our family decided to withdraw care. There are no words to describe the care that Cheri gave not only to her in her final days but also to our family at our most difficult time. Cheri was "just on the ball." She knew exactly what my mother-in-law needed and when which I feel is such a special talent and gift when taking care of a nonresponsive patient. Cheri's care did not end with my mother-in-law. This special nurse took care of my mother-in-law and our entire family. Cheri is very confident, professional, and knowledgeable; however, at the same time, she is very caring, understanding, and empathetic. She has the biggest heart, and we could tell immediately that she is just full of love and compassion and truly loves being a nurse and making a difference. She educated the family regarding the prognosis and options. She answered every concern or question we had. Cheri dried our tears, held our hands, and was right there with us. On the first day, we asked her if she would be my mother-in-law's nurse. On the second day, she informed us she really could not know that, but on that second day, she told us she came to work early to ensure she could care for my mother-in-law. When I think of the wonderful things she did for us those two days, I cry every time. People do not connect to that level very often. Honestly, I cannot describe in words what this fantastic woman did for our family during this most difficult time. Cheri really did take care of all of us, and none of us will ever forget her - she is an inspiration, and most of all, she was our Angel.
