Genesis Wimmer is an amazing Nurse who shows compassion and advocacy for our veterans. I have personally witnessed her multiple times purchasing food with her own money to make sure patients who have been waiting for a bed have something to eat. She provides excellent bedside care and creates an authentic caring relationship with her patients.

Most recently, she has gone above and beyond her duties by assisting a patient who was admitted to care for his cat. This patient lives alone, has no support system outside the VA, and was admitted for a leg fracture. His biggest concern was who would take care of his cat. As we know, pets can become like family, providing companionship and support for our elderly patients. RN Wimmer volunteered to ensure that the cat will be taken care of while the patient recovers. With the patient's permission and blessing, she visits the cat and makes sure his residence is taken care of. She also visits the patient often and updates him with pictures of his beloved pet. RN Wimmer embodies all the elements of holistic nursing and the ICARES model whenever she cares for any patient. It is obvious that nursing is not just a job or career to her but a passion.
