Meghan Philcox is inarguably one of the greatest assets to our PICU team. She consistently goes above and beyond for her patients, and sets a positive example for the level of care we should all strive to provide. The best part is, she does this gently and genuinely, without seeking any recognition for the hard work she pours into every shift, making her the most deserving recipient of the DAISY Award.

One example of her exceptional care is her commitment to a very special infant on our unit. If this baby had a family, they would surely nominate her for this award. However, since this baby’s family is our PICU team, we have come together to honor Meghan for all that she has done. This infant has been one of the sickest on our unit at times. Meghan has cared for this baby since birth, providing loving attention and high-level critical care. She has spent her own time and money to buy clothes, crib sheets, G-Tube pads, and Trach pads to make this baby’s stay feel more like home. When the baby suffered a severe diaper rash, Meghan even bought specific diapers known to reduce irritation and promote comfort. She does all of these things knowing there will likely never be any special recognition or even a “thank you.” Her thoughtful consideration and strong sense of empathy are evident in every action she takes.

Beyond her generosity, Meghan is an incredible team player. She has a strong knowledge base and is always willing to share it with others, especially the newer nurses on the unit. She never hesitates to answer questions, no matter how many times they are asked. She will always swap a shift with you, even if it makes her own schedule a little less convenient. Her actions stem from genuine kindness, making her truly deserving of our deepest thanks. Meghan is the gold standard for impeccable nursing and encompasses all that represents the DAISY Nursing community.
