Sarah went and sat with the patient and made sure she was taken care of and everything that was being done was explained clearly and in a way the patient would understand.
I am absolutely honored to work alongside this incredibly hardworking nurse every day, who encompasses the spirit of the DAISY Award in our cancer center every day. Nominating Sarah is a pleasure, as she is extremely dedicated and compassionate and always treats our patients and their families with the utmost respect. This nurse is always practicing evidence-based care and continuously goes above and beyond to ensure all of our patients receive the best possible care. She always has a smile on her face and truly makes patients' experiences very pleasurable when they come to our office.
We recently had a patient who was newly diagnosed with cancer, and during her first treatment, she had a reaction to the chemotherapy. Without hesitation, Sarah went and sat with the patient and made sure she was taken care of and everything that was being done was explained clearly and in a way the patient would understand. This nurse sat there and held the patient's hand and made her feel comfortable during an extremely scary time. After the patient was deemed stable, she was sent home, but Sarah followed up with the patient daily and answered all of her questions. She allowed the patient to express how she was feeling, she allowed the patient to be heard and supported by trying to understanding truly what this patient was feeling. This nurse is extremely empathetic and goes above and beyond everyday, she was truly made for this.
Her love and dedication to the nursing profession do not go unnoticed. She does an incredible job honoring the human spirit and allowing our patients to be treated holistically, ensuring all of their needs are met- not just their medical needs. She creates a safe environment for our patients during a very hard time, when our patients receive the awful news and get diagnosed with cancer, this nurse is there to step up to the plate and make sure each of our patients know they are not alone and we are all in this together. This nurse is committed to excellence and truly makes a difference in our patients' lives every day. Our team would not be the same without this outstanding nurse, but more importantly, our patients have a better experience because of her.
