Rebecca was so good at reassuring us that T was in the right place and would receive the best care. She was brilliant at explaining what they would be doing for T and why all the equipment was needed.
Our son, T, has Down syndrome and ongoing respiratory problems. When he was admitted to QMC, his respiratory issues worsened over the next few days, and we were told he needed to go to PICU for more intensive treatment. As parents, this was a very worrying and stressful time for us. We felt that our time on the ward was not helping at all, but once we were on PICU, it was like being transported to a different planet, with so much equipment and people to greet us and explain what was about to happen.

This is where we met Rebecca. It was quite overwhelming to see T looking so sick and feeling helpless that I couldn't help him as his dad. Rebecca was so good at reassuring us that T was in the right place and would receive the best care. She was brilliant at explaining what they would be doing for T and why all the equipment was needed. She was extremely efficient at working with other nurses to get T set up with everything he needed.

But even when T was settled, Rebecca didn't stop. She asked if we were okay and showed me where everything was on the unit for parents to use. Even after my partner and I returned from getting a coffee, Rebecca had found a few minutes of spare time to make some bunting, which she fastened above T's bed—a really nice touch from an amazing nurse.

We only met her for one shift, but what an impression she made. Rebecca is a nurse who stands out from many others. She doesn't just come to work to do her job; she does her job and makes a real difference, going above and beyond to help my son and us as a family.
