The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award was created to recognize those nurses who have devoted their life's work to the compassionate care of others. Hallmarks of this award include a dedication to the nursing profession through active mentoring, role modeling, advocating for their patients, and promoting the positive image of nursing. This is a fitting tribute to Sherry Cole, our Chief Nursing Officer, as we celebrate her nursing legacy.
Sherry’s nursing career began just over four decades ago. Thirty of those 40 years have been spent with this organization, dating back to our Baptist Montclair days. She worked her way up from a staff nurse, to cardiac transplant coordinator, to clinical nurse specialist, to cardiovascular clinical excellence coordinator, to chest pain center coordinator, to director of CICU, to CV service line clinical director, to Chief Nursing Officer. Her impact while serving in these various roles cannot be understated. She has worked tirelessly to improve both the patient experience and the nursing experience, and she has prioritized growing future generations of nurse leaders. The greater Birmingham community and the state have recognized her excellence in years past by naming her an Alabama Hospital Association’s Hospital Hero.
