Larsen connects the dots between patient needs, patient wants, and patient care. She has displayed advanced critical thinking during our short time together. She is always thinking of the why’s, how’s, and when’s of nursing.
When I think of patient care worthy of a DAISY nomination, there is not one day, one shift, one patient, or one moment that pops into my mind. What I consider worthy of a DAISY nomination is every day, every shift, every patient, and every moment.  At this point, I think of Larsen Block, a student nurse who truly displays a DAISY spirit throughout all of her nursing care. Having met Larsen only a couple of weeks ago, I could not be more proud of the nurse she already is and the care she provides so early on in her career.  She is exceeding every goal and expectation I originally had set for our time together.

Larsen makes a point to take full advantage of every opportunity offered to her and is constantly looking for more opportunities to learn from anyone who has a little knowledge to give.  Her respectfulness of the nursing field flows over to our fellow nurses, certified nursing assistants, respiratory therapists, occupational and physical therapists, and more. She is in constant search of anyone who is involved in her patient’s care and uses this to gain a more well-rounded understanding of her patients, their disease processes, and ways we can improve their care.  Her independence and autonomy in her nursing care are above and beyond what I could have ever anticipated. Larsen connects the dots between patient needs, patient wants, and patient care. She has displayed advanced critical thinking during our short time together. She is always thinking of the why’s, how’s, and when’s of nursing.  Although I know she does not realize it, her knowledge, thoughtfulness, critical thinking, autonomy, integrity, respect, and pride in her care truly shines through.

When Larsen walks onto the floor she takes full accountability for the care of her patients and does everything in her power to make sure they are not only physically cared for, but emotionally as well.  Every time Larsen walks into a room, she doesn’t just tell the patients about their medications.  She speaks with them about their real lives outside of those four walls. She speaks with them about the things they used to do, the things they want to get back to, or the places they want to go when they get out.  She wants to see pictures of their kids and grandkids. She invests more than just medicine in her patients.  She gives them hope; she gives them support; and she gives them a listening ear.  When Larsen walks into a patient’s room, they feel better.  Even if it isn’t physically or long-lasting, they feel better because they instantly know Larsen cares about them.  Larsen cares about who they are as a person, not just who they are as a patient.  This is the nurse Larsen is. This is the person Larsen is. Every day, every shift, every patient, and every moment.  Larsen Block is a DAISY Nurse.
