I am so thankful to Marisol for being level-headed and calm when everyone else in the room was at a ten and that she stepped in as an advocate for my daughter and me.
My daughter woke in the middle of the night with a reaction to the medication she received. She was itchy all over and red and woke in a panic. She was crying and gasping (her usual cry, and she had only slept 2 hours in 24 hours). The doctors came in to assess and were concerned she was having anaphylaxis. While I was thankful the doctors were ready for the worst, I tried to explain that she was not short of breath, that this was her typical crying episode, and that her lips were not swollen - to no avail. Marisol Hernandez heard me, spoke up on my behalf, ensured the doctors had her full attention, and then advocated for me to repeat my concerns. Ultimately, my daughter was able to calm down and did not need epinephrine or oxygen. I am so thankful to Marisol for being level-headed and calm when everyone else in the room was at a ten and that she stepped in as an advocate for my daughter and me. Later that night, she came back to check in on both my daughter and me to make sure I was ok (as if she did not have enough to do on a busy floor as charge nurse for the night!) I have been a nurse for nine years, and one never wants to find  themselves on the other side of the healthcare system. Having nurses like Marisol makes me proud of my profession, and so very thankful as a mother!
