There was a young female patient in the ICU, her in 20s who was very ill, and the family made the difficult decision to focus on her comfort and stopped all invasive treatment. The patient had two very young children who were able to come and visit the patient. Shannon was the patient's nurse on that day. Shannon took extra time to make the patient look beautiful by cleaning her up and braiding her hair. Shannon stayed in the room while the patient's daughters visited, answered all of their questions, and even demonstrated holding the patient's hand and providing a soothing touch to make the experience less scary for the two girls. Shannon provided a soothing and comforting environment for the two little girls to be able to say their goodbyes to their mother while making them smile and feel safe.
