I don’t know how he knew that at that moment, I needed that hand on my shoulder, but he did. At that moment, my anxiousness went away, and I became very calm, and all went perfectly.
Dan seems to happily go wherever he is needed. He is always there to say hi when possible. I love hearing his stories and adventures to take my mind off why I am here. I always hear his co-workers saying nothing but good things about him. I overheard them once talking about how Dan gave a young patient a new set of earbuds because his headphones were worn out. Dan has given me a lot of information to questions I did not even know to ask. He always listens to me and gets me the answers.
I want to tell you about a time when Dan ended up being in three different appointments during one of my stays. My last appointment was for a lung biopsy. I was told that I would have to be awake during the procedure, which made me feel very anxious, but being the person that I am, I tried to hide that feeling as I do have great trust in people here. As I was being wheeled back, I saw Dan in the hallway. He said “hi” as usual and asked where I was headed, and he said, “Oh, piece of cake,” and was headed off. Then in less than a minute, he was back and he put his hand on my shoulder and said, “Really, don’t worry, you won’t feel a thing”. I don’t know how he knew that at that moment, I needed that hand on my shoulder, but he did. At that moment, my anxiousness went away, and I became very calm, and all went perfectly.
I recently had my 7-year-old port replaced and was so happy to see Dan in the room as the radiology nurse. Dan has a healer’s touch for sure, and I don’t think he even knows it. He always seems to be at the right place at the right time for me. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to recognize Dan. He is one of a kind.
