She is always coming up with innovative ideas to further push the envelope for how we can lift and support our new nurses.
Megan Dickey has been in her position for just over two years and in that time, has positively impacted many of those around her. She consistently supports her professional development team and is beloved by the new hire nurse population she serves by creating an environment of trust and mutual respect. She will be the first to offer help and if she doesn't have an answer to an issue, will go out of her way to find a resource or solution. She offers to help her team in other disciplines with varying needs, including volunteering to teach peripheral IV education for the Women's division and teaching skills during a "field day" for the new Emergency Department on top of her existing workload.
She has helped to guide her nurses through many challenging transitions, including levels of care, competency planning and systemizing nurse residency with confidence and ease. She is always coming up with innovative ideas to further push the envelope for how we can lift and support our new nurses. For example, improving a form used to track a new nurse’s orientation progress, creating spreadsheets to improve communication between professional development and unit leadership and using gamification to help with adult learning principles and engagement. She navigates difficult conversations with grace, is an active listener and thoughtful in her feedback. She is often the last person to leave for the day and will put in overtime to make sure that any project she is working on is done well and has been completely thought through. She is always thinking of others and how she can recognize those around her by nominating her nurses for Nurse Excellence Awards, Daisy Awards, high-fives and celebrating professional and personal milestones. She is a wealth of knowledge, always forward thinking and looking for ways to learn more.

Megan Dickey has been a gift to the PD team. She has taken on large projects such as educating RNUS across her division and small projects such as developing a flyer with the same dedication and creativity of a true leader. She has excellent attention to detail and often sees things that are completely missed by others, including myself. She is kind and willing to assist others when they need help. She prioritizes her new nurses by shifting her hours to see all the new nurses on either shift. Megan role models extraordinary behavior in many areas. Recently she found herself the remaining member of a small team working on a new element for nurse residency. This was her second seminar content item to develop and could have said enough and stepped away – but she didn’t. She stayed with the challenge and will be presenting for the first time, ensuring the content is ready. I am grateful Megan chose our team. She represents Professional Development with compassion and mutual respect for our team and the nurses she cares for during their transition to practice.
