During my son's hospital stay at Levine Children's Hospital, my mom became confused and combative. She was seen in the ED overnight. After speaking to Paul Smith and explaining that I was having difficulty getting her diagnosed with dementia, he went way above my expectations. Instead of releasing her, he called in the Geriatric Team. After two years of trying to find someone who would help, Paul Smith took action, and by the day's end, she was diagnosed with vascular dementia. Her ride home was 5 minutes away and instead of allowing her to leave, he got her the care she needed. We can finally get her the proper treatment because Paul listened to me and paid attention to my mom. Please consider him for this award. If not for Paul Smith, it would have been at least 6 more months before she could get a specialist's appointment. I just can't explain how important and impactful his actions were. Absolutely outstanding.
