I can’t imagine my birth experience without Bridget, and I feel privileged to have had her care and guidance over me.
I don’t know if I can ever articulate how Bridget impacted my birth experience. My husband and I spent four years doing IVF. This pregnancy was our third after two miscarriages. Needless to say, we had waited a long time to meet our son. Beyond excited, we were also nervous and overwhelmed. Bridget’s shift started at 7 PM, right before my induction was to start. Right away she brought a calming and confidence to the room. We trusted her completely. My body decided to begin labor naturally, so after that, we found things to move fast.
Bridget not only explained everything. She was my rock. Labor picked up quickly, and the pain was fierce. She was my champion the whole time, even helping me through the epidural process. One example of her support is when I couldn’t stop shaking, and she told me a quick trick to temporarily stop the shaking. Those little tips and tricks helped me feel in control and make the experience enjoyable instead of only scary and overwhelming.
The other important point is that I’m plus size, and at most medical appointments, I’m treated differently, and I feel judged. Bridget never made me feel anything less than strong, safe, and capable.
I can’t imagine my birth experience without Bridget, and I feel privileged to have had her care and guidance over me. I didn’t think it was possible to enjoy birth, but it is. I 100% believe it depends on the support you have. Bridget is an incredible person, and I want to recognize her. Even though I knew it had to be a busy night, she made us feel like nothing less than number one. Even with anxiety, she calmed and reassured us. Bridget is one of a kind.
Thank you, Bridget, for helping bring our miracle rainbow into the world. P.S. Baby O is perfect and healthy!
