Last year, she facilitated a clothing drive for victims of Domestic Violence and participated in several food pantry events. Darlyn consistently goes above and beyond.
A few weeks ago, Darlyn cared for a pediatric patient who arrived on a Saturday. They stayed in the Pediatric ED overnight, pending ACS placement /evaluation. The child was English-speaking, the mom was recently displaced from the home, and the grandma only spoke Haitian. There was clearly a communication barrier causing distress within this familial relationship. The family was due to be separated because of this issue.

On Monday, the child was still in the ED, Disposition pending. On this day, Darlyn was not the primary RN. She took extra time to utilize her previous bond with family to facilitate/ mediate this broken relationship. She used wayfinding to find a way to share her knowledge of translator services via the phone so that the patient and his grandmother could communicate. She taught them both and made sure they understood how to use this technology for communication. She also facilitated the transport home by securing car services so that no further delay would hinder the patient's discharge. She escorted them to their cab and also followed up with the family when they got home to ensure all was well.

She continuously participates in community service events and encourages other staff members to do the same. Last year, she facilitated a clothing drive for victims of Domestic Violence and participated in several food pantry events. Darlyn consistently goes above and beyond. She has always been a pleasure to work with and an inspiration to all. Her kindness and generosity are true characteristics of any DAISY recipient.
