Fagma has been our nurse clinician for years, and I don’t know how to describe her dedication and commitment. She is always available to assist with all needs. If a patient comes, she is the first to jump to help without being asked. She cares for all the small details that no one considers and makes sure that the unit is always prepared for any anticipated event. She takes care of all the staff on an individual and professional level.

One day, we had sick leave in the night, and we were only two staff members. We received a crash caesarian section, and we tried to get anyone to do OT, but we couldn’t. Fagma came and did the OT, although she was working that day. She finished her duty two hours prior to our message. She couldn’t jeopardize patient safety, and she immediately cared to assist as she always does.

Another story was that we received a patient for delivery however the baby was not compatible with life and the mom knew that she will deliver a baby that will pass away in a few minutes. After the delivery, the baby passed away as expected, and unfortunately, the medical team finished the delivery and left the patient without comfort or reassurance. Fagma then came in and cleaned the baby and wrapped her nicely, and after talking to the mom, she gave her the baby and explained to us that the mom needs to have time to grieve and have closure. After a while she came back and stayed with the patient and comforted her. 

In another story that I witnessed, we received a patient who had eclampsia post-delivery and was having severe headaches to the extent that she was screaming all day, and painkillers were not that beneficial to her. Fagma went to her room and provided her with a head massage that assisted her in relaxing and enduring more. Fagma is a unique character in our hospital. She always leads us to provide the best care, not only up to the standards but also up to the optimal needs of the patient.
