I first met Daiva when I was admitted to Princess Margaret Cancer Center in August of 2021; she was one of the amazing nurses on staff in the unit I was in. I was just over 18 when I was admitted and very nervous about what was ahead of me, my diagnosis, and beginning my treatment. I spent over a month in hospital at the beginning, but nurses like Daiva made me feel more comfortable and assured me I was in good hands and would be alright. After I transitioned from an inpatient to an outpatient, I started going for appointments in the blue pod of the hematology day unit to start each cycle, and at times, Daiva was the nurse working with me for the day. Having our history of her being my nurse in hospital, it was always nice to catch up with her, and she made my wife feel comfortable as well as I was getting my chemotherapy. Daiva has been a part of the team taking care of me from the beginning of my chemotherapy in 2021 to until April, when I got to ring the bell and finish my chemotherapy.
