Cynthia worked diligently to try to make my mother more comfortable. She was relentless in trying to relieve my mother's pain; the countless calls to providers, repositioning, and checking in on my mom were just a few things Cynthia did to try to make my mother more comfortable.
I would like to nominate Cynthia for the DAISY Award for the exceptional care she provided to my mother during her admission. My mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer almost 3 years ago. She has had many ups and downs during her treatment and has spent most of May and June admitted as an inpatient at MetroHealth. She received extraordinary care everywhere that she was placed, but then she was admitted to a different floor under the care of Cynthia. My mother was transferred from the MICU to this floor after her hypoglycemia was resolved. Cynthia was an absolute pleasure, and she made my mom feel like she was the only patient she was caring for.

During her stay, my mother started complaining of increasing abdominal pain. It was discovered she had a perforated bowel; due to her pancreatic cancer and possible carcinomatosis, she was not a candidate for surgical intervention. Cynthia was assigned to my mother after we received the news that there were no other interventions for my mother other than pain management and would not remain on this unit. Cynthia worked diligently to try to make my mother more comfortable. She was relentless in trying to relieve my mother's pain; the countless calls to providers, repositioning, and checking in on my mom were just a few things Cynthia did to try to make my mother more comfortable. Despite the increasing abdominal pain, Cynthia was able to put my mom at ease and made sure that she was always aware of what the plan was. My mother knew that if she called for the nurse, Cynthia would be there within minutes, which was a huge relief to both my mother and me. Her responsiveness was quite impressive! I understand the time, effort, and patience it took to care for my mother during this critical time. Still, Cynthia went above and beyond to ensure that my mother was as comfortable as possible.

There truly are no words to describe the gratitude my mother, family, and myself have for the amazing work Cynthia did. I hope that Cynthia knows the impact she had on my mother and the great comfort she was able to provide in my mother's final days. Thank you, Cynthia, for being a truly amazing nurse
